Description: Sketch for the 'Seamen' set by Ms. Lina Crnčić-Virant. The 'Allegory of Peace' design which was, with further elaboration and additions, later adopted for the lowest three denominations of the set. Unfortunately the design is damaged and broken into two parts. Nevertheless it is a great rarity of the Croatian philately. Ms. Lina Crnčić-Virant was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and married to Mr. Menci Klement Crnčić, the ‘father’ of the Croatian graphic arts. She also became one of the most prominent graphic artists of her generation and is further remembered for her designs of flags and church vestments.
